African Grey Timneh

Extremely intelligent and an excellent talker, the African Grey is often referred to as the Cadillac of parrots.  It is said that the African Grey has the intelligence of a 5 year old and the emotional level of a 2 year old.  They have excellent talking capabilities, often mimicking  the voices of other people.

  They also mimic other sounds as well.  They make excellent pets if given proper attention.  They often bond strongly to one person.  They generally are not the best choice of a pet for children.  The lifespan of the African Grey can range from 50 to 80 years. 

There are 2 varieties of African Grey, the Congo Grey and the Timneh Grey.  The Congo Grey is a larger bird, with a bright red tail and a black beak.  The Timneh Grey is slightly smaller with a maroon tail and a horn colored beak.  Both make excellent pets and have approximately equal potential talking ability.  (Note: while African Greys have excellent talking capability, there is no guarantee that any parrot will talk.  This should not be your only reason for selecting a parrot for a pet).
